M3Cargo company history

  • Task
  • Groupage cargo delivery
  • Customs clearance
  • Solution

The M3Cargo project was launched on 1 March 2011. The specialists who created it, since 2005 worked in the field of foreign economic activity, engaged in delivery and customs clearance.

As we came to the opening of our own service, told the founder of M3Cargo, Ivan Kadolenok:

Task

At the beginning of 2010, I was asked to bring plastic DVD boxes with a volume of about 6 cubic meters, weighing 200 kg and costing $1500.

It was necessary to deliver the boxes in, then, Dnepropetrovsk. I decided to split the work into two stages:

  • Bring the order to the Dnipro.
  • Carry out customs clearance in the Dnipro (at the place of registration of the importer).

Groupage cargo delivery

I requested a calculation of the cost from the companies that delivered groupage cargo, and received the price of transportation from China to the Dnipro from $220 per 1m3. Shipping was more expensive than boxes.

Why is it so expensive? If small cargo is carried separately, it bears many small costs that do not depend on the volume of the consignment - the services of agents, payment for work at the port, delivery to customs by a car under customs control.

Delivery of cargo from a port in China to a port in Ukraine (for example, to Odessa) as part of a collection container costs around $100 per 1 cubic meter. But the delivery of my small cargo from China to Dnipro turned out to be $220 per 1m3.

Turns out price isn't the only problem. I couldn't get a delivery time for the boxes in advance because the companies were shipping containers from China as they filled up. Then they declared terms from 45 days, and to what - unknown.

Despite the high cost and vague deadlines, I decided to take the boxes to Ukraine. Upon the arrival of the vessel in Odessa, the container with my cargo could not be issued to the carrier for delivery to the Dnipro, because one of the recipients had not yet sent its documents to the port, which means that the port could not issue the container for further processing. So another two weeks went by.

Customs clearance

When the cargo finally arrived in the Dnipro, new payments surfaced, which did not depend on the size of the consignment. I had to pay:

  • Customs Control Zone.
  • Customs broker services for filing documents (since we had our own brokers, we paid for transportation and their salary).
  • Obtaining a letter of approval from the certification authority.

So, another $300 was added to $500 for customs payments. In total, delivery and customs payments cost $2,120 (about $1,320 for transportation + $800 for customs clearance) - this is $350 per 1m3. Now, if I turned to M3Cargo as a client, delivery and customs for plastic boxes would cost $263 per cubic meter.

Solution

Having experienced how difficult and expensive it is to import small shipments, we have decided to create a service that will solve all the problems described above:

  1. Delivery times do not depend on the filling of the container. Our shipments from China are sent at least once every two weeks. If Ukrainian ports are busy, we transport containers to European ports with further delivery to Ukraine. We carry out partial customs clearance of consignments so that you do not have to wait until the cargo that is difficult to clear through customs is cleared.
  2. Shipping costs are reduced. The entire container is issued to one recipient with subsequent transfer to customers. We pay for the entire container at once, and not for each cargo separately. The costs are divided among all recipients of the container, this allows you to save money.
  3. We fix the terms of delivery and customs clearance on the shore.
  4. We work absolutely transparently and pay all customs duties.

We’ll be glad to help you!
